Bad Day

Reasons why my day sucked:
  1. Got a bike with a flat tire and a broken chain. Found out the chain was broken when it fell off 12 times on the way to and from school today. fml.
  2. Woke up throwing up
  3. Woke up at 5, 6, 7, 8 am
  4. My fingernails are filthy from all the grease from putting my chain repeatedly back on.
  5. Was late to my first day of class.
  6. Made my soup too spicy, now my tummy hurts again.
  7. My school takes 30 minutes to bike to. WHYYYY?
  8. My bike seat doesn't go down any further and now my hoohah is sore. Yes, I said hoohah.
  9. My back is also sore, now that you mention it.
  10. I woke up and there were 3 live sharks in my bed

Morgonpigg...inte

First and foremost I would like to say that I am not a morning person. Whoever invented morning should be strung up by their ankles and beaten with wet noodles until they bleed.

Moving on...

Things Haley did today:
  • Got up way too early
  • Went to SLU and got my username/password for school yayyy
  • Ate a delicious ham sandwich
  • Fried my hair straightener
  • Cried for hours about hair straightener
  • Got a new hair straightener
  • Paid my first rent bills!
  • Met someone from Canada, Germany, and Wisconsin
  • Wisconsin guy was sleeping on someone's floor because there is a shortage of housing in Uppsala and he has nowhere to stay. Poor dude.
  • Homeless dude invited me to a party
  • Success!

More Nonsense

More Observations, since you can't seem to get enough...or maybe I can't stop writing them:
  • The Candy here, is so freaking good - They have a thing called GottMix where you mix a bunch of candy in a bag and I'm rolling around in bed right now eating so much chocolate.
  • The potato chips here are just wee bit thicker
  • They watch Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Cops, Family Guy, American Dad, and other stuff like that here. Also I watched Tropic Thunder last night.
  • They don't have breakfast sausage like the patties you can make that's ground up. I was sad.
  • It costs freaking 30 Krona to get on the bus! [$4!!!] Which is why I will hopefully be getting a bike later today...
  • You can't Google everything here :[ B-b-but I'm a Google master!!
Random Notes:
  • I'm going to join a nation soon, the one I singled out that I definitely don't want is Norrland's Nation which seems like a big whore. I want to join one where I can take dance classes!
  • I got my temporary international student ID so I can go to pubs and stuff. yayyy
  • Sweet god, I tried blood pudding last night - yes, with pigs blood... and cranberry sauce. It was not good.
  • I'm starting to understand Swedish a lot more. It's amazing when you change your skype and FB to Svenska and then pay attention to signs and stuff. Plus I've been studying. Helps when people speak Swedish to you instead of just reverting to English, but w/e.

Getting Aquainted

I bought some more stuff today; a fan, which I have D.E.S.P.E.R.A.T.E.L.Y needed to sleep, it is way too quiet in my room and I haven't been sleeping very well so I am really really glad I finally found somewhere that has them. The place I found it is like a really small mini tiny Walmart, so at least I know where to find appliances, school stuff, and random stuff like that.

Additionally, I bought a backpack and some school supplies and an alarm clock because I don't have one. And some more food. And some toilet paper if you must know, good god you're nosy.

More Swedish Observations:
  • 85% of the people here are very attractive.
  • 90% of them dress better than Americans.
  • The other 10% look like they dressed themselves in the dark and you walk by going 'Whaaat the...'
  • I think people stare a lot more...
  • People here may be more attractive and wear weirder/better stuff but they don't get a flying crap what you think about what they look like.
  • There are 1 billion babies here! Seriously I've probably seen half the people here carrying a baby, pushing a baby, chasing a baby... why all the babies!?!

I Have Arrived!

I have finally arrived in Uppsala, Sweden for my 4 month stay. I got on the wrong train and almost got lost, but at least I finally made it here. Luckily the airport food made me extremely ill. Awesome!

So, after I took a 4 hour nap I finally got back up and went into town and took some pictures. I'm really glad I got here on a Friday instead of my previously intended Saturday because I found out you have to pay like $80 to get your key on the weekend! Anyways, I have no food courts or fast food around here so I have to go shopping tomorrow, luckily someone on my floor was nice enough to feed me and show me some stuff on the map.

I got my money exchanged to Swedish Krona so at least there's that.

Oh yea, also I just found out that it gets dark here at 2 pm in mid September and by December there is only 5 hours of daylight O_O. Shoulda looked that up before hand... hmmm...

Some Swedish Observations
  • Everyone here rides a bike. Everyone.
  • There are exactly 0 gingers.
  • There are many many blondes, and most are good looking.
  • However, they are not 7 feet tall, apparently.
  • I thought more people would openly speak English here. Wrong.
  • Apparently there are Cat-Crossing signs.
  • Also, the pedestrian walkway-sign-people all have different hairstyles. I mean wth?

Last Day at Work

Success! I finished my last day at work; it was mostly uneventful.

Also, I am now washing ALL of my clothes in preparation for packing. So thrilling to have 100% clean clothes, yayyyy.

Additionally, I am going to a cookout tonight with some people from work (my OLD work :P) So that should be fun. Unfortunately no one bought a pinata. :[

Here's a cute kitten for your viewing enjoyment.

Wrapping Everything Up

Ah yes, we are down to the 15 day mark; I bought my plane ticket two days ago for a day earlier than I anticipated. So, now I'm leaving August 19th instead of the 20th. This means the counter at the bottom is adding an extra day, so if you're looking at it, just take off a day.

This means I have a week and a half left of work, 2 days of class (and a day for my final X_X), and very little time to finish everything else up. My mother bought me some awesome luggage for my trip so I won't have to pack everything in Walmart plastic bags like I thought I'd have to (sarcasm ftw).

My academic adviser finally called me back after 2 weeks of harassing him, so I have my third letter of recommendation sent out (not that any of them have finished it... -_-). I got my official scores for my GRE, and I got a 1210, which isn't bad, but isn't phenomenal. What IS surprising is that I got a 5 (out of 6) on my writing/essay portion; I didn't think I would do that well, but that's awesome.

So, basically I just have pwn my Physics Final (160/200 for an A, I think) - no that doesn't sound awesome but I'm terrible in physics. Then I have to make sure all of my stuff is wrapped up for my trip (got my camera working, got my luggage, passport, visa, housing arrangements). Then I will try to finish as much of my vet school application(s) as possible; I'm applying to 3 schools now, instead of just one because I think it looks better to apply elsewhere.

Also, I have a Swedish buddy that's going to meet me when I get there and help me out. I'm getting really nervous/excited :] wish me luck!
